Diabetes is a leading cause of vision loss in Canada. The risk of blindness is 25 times higher for patients with diabetes compared to those without diabetes.

Upon completing a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology from Simon Fraser University, Dr. Harleen Takhar moved to Portland, Oregon, to continue her studies. She graduated with her Doctorate of Optometry with honours in 2010 and moved back to Vancouver shortly after.
